County Warns COVID-19 Cases Are Increasing Again

4,000.

Wayne County reached that unfortunate milestone of 4,000 total positive cases of COVID-19 this week.

There are currently 323 estimated active cases of coronavirus in Wayne County.

At Tuesday’s county board meeting, the commissioners heard an update from Wayne County Health Director Dr. Brenda Weis regarding the surging numbers.

She says the county is trending at about 25 – 30 new cases of coronavirus each day, up from the 13 – 15 new cases per day reported in recent weeks.

Dr. Weis says residents need to keep up the efforts to control the spread, and the goal is to ‘change the hearts and minds” instead of looking at having to take enforcement measure.

Wayne County Manager Craig Honeycutt said the county will get the message out more aggressively to help stop the spread.

Residents are reminded to avoid large gatherings and continue practicing the three Ws:

  • Wear a mask
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Wait six feet apart

Also, North Carolina may record its 4,000th coronavirus-related death by day’s end.

As of Tuesday’s update from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, there have been 3,992 COVID-19 deaths in the state.
