Commissioners Remember Mayo’s Work For Wayne County

Remembering a commissioner’s service to his county and district.

Tuesday, the Wayne County Commissioners all paused to remember Ray Mayo and passed a proclamation in the late commissioner’s honor.

Commissioner Wayne Aycock read the proclamation before it was approved.

Commissioner Bill Pate remembered his friend, and said Mayo was a man of family, church, and he loved Wayne County.

Pate also says Mayo was about “getting things done.”

Commissioner Joe Daughtery says he was shocked to hear the news and noted this was the third commissioner the board had lost in 2020.

Mayo, the District 1 representative on the county board, passed away last week.

Commissioner Mayo served the citizens of Wayne County in District 1 since July 2011, and was appointed to serve as the chairman of the Board in December 2019.
