Library Asks For Community Input On Strategic Facility Plan

Wayne County Public Library has received an $11,560 LSTA Planning Grant from the State Library of North Carolina. Director, Donna Phillips, says “This planning grant will allow the library to work with an experienced consultant to develop a comprehensive strategic plan for library facilities for the county.” The purpose of the plan will be to identify current and future library facility needs for Wayne County and to develop recommendations for addressing the needs.

The library last completed a facilities study plan fifteen years ago in 2005. In order to meet Wayne County’s goal of providing all citizens with equal access to 21st century public library technologies, services, and resources it is imperative that we complete a revised comprehensive strategic plan for library facilities. Addressing the library facility needs of Wayne County will be an opportunity to improve the quality of life for all who call Wayne County home.

The consultant will guide the library through a comprehensive planning process, which will allow for the input of community stakeholders. The planning process will include a space needs assessment and will result in the development of a working facilities plan that can be used as a road map for library and local government officials as we plan for 21st century public libraries designed to advance community goals.

County Manager Craig Honeycutt added, “We appreciate our library staff for their work on this grant project. Our public libraries are an incredible asset to the community, and we hope that residents will take time to provide input on how we can better serve Wayne County.”

Residents are invited to complete the Library Facilities Plan Survey available online at www.wcpl.org.

This grant is made possible by funding from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (IMLS grant number LS-246155-OLS-20).”
