WCC Opens Employment Lab

Wayne Community College has established a lab to assist members of the public who are seeking employment.

The W.E.L.L. (WCC Employment Learning Lab) opened Monday, Aug. 31.

It will provide assistance with job searches, applications, resumes, and interview preparation. Individual appointments are available in both face-to-face and virtual formats. Monthly employment seminars and workshops will be held.

The calendar of workshops can be found at www.waynecc.edu/continuing-ed/programs/hrd/. Workshops scheduled for September include “Networking 101” – 10 a.m.-noon on Sept. 17; “Balancing Work and Family” – 1-3 p.m. on Sept. 24; and “Resumes that Work” – 10 a.m.–noon on Sept. 29. More workshops are set for October and November.

The lab will be open 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, and 8 a.m.-noon on Fridays. It is accessible by appointment on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It Is located in Room 136 of the Walnut Building on the college’s main campus in Goldsboro.

Individuals must register to participate in the lab. There is a $70 fee but that cost will be waived for qualifying individuals who are unemployed, “underemployed,” or who have received notice of layoff or pending layoff.

“We look forward to serving our community and assisting them in their employment and training journey,” said Renita Allen Dawson, associate vice president for Workforce Continuing Education Services.

Face coverings must be worn by all on the WCC campus. All individuals in vehicles entering the campus must complete a drive-through COVID-19 screening process. While the screening process is brief, individuals are encouraged to factor it into their travel plans.
