August 15, 77,

Robert Leroy Collum, 77, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Robert was born in South Port on December 29, 1942, the last son of seven children, to the late Pearl and Beulah Collum. As a young boy, Robert lived at the Boys Home at Lake Waccamaw. He was a graduate of the University of Pembroke. Robert proudly served his country for 11 years in the United States Navy, both enlisted and subsequently as an officer.

He moved his family to Germany for three years where he & his wife owned and operated an insurance business. He served for four years on the town council for Lake Waccamaw. Robert always enjoyed boating on the lake but will be remembered for his love of biking and the thrill of riding over 30 miles a day.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. With the restrictions due to COVID-19, a private graveside service for the family will be held at the Eastern Carolina Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
