The North Carolina Great 100 Inc. has named Wayne UNC Health Care Orthopedic Nurse Navigator Melissa McCullen and School Nurse Jeff Kincaid among the Great 100 Nurses in North Carolina. The prestigious list recognizes registered nurses for their outstanding professional abilities and commitment to improving health care in their communities.
The list is compiled by The Great 100 Inc., a grassroots, peer recognition organization that honors the nursing profession in North Carolina. The organization recognizes nursing excellence and provides scholarships to nursing students across the state.
“Over the years, nurses across our organization have been recognized by the North Carolina Great 100 for going above and beyond in the care they provide to our patients,” said Wayne UNC President & CEO Janie Jaberg. “Melissa McCullen and Jeff Kincaid are nurses who are not only dedicated to our patients but also active and involved in our community. These nurses hold themselves to the highest standards in their profession.”
Described as a nurse who is highly dedicated to the students under his care, Kincaid has served as school nurse for Rosewood Elementary and Middle schools for over a decade. Described by one school principal as “very compassionate and genuinely concerned for {students’} welfare,” Kincaid is recognized as a nurse who consistently goes above and beyond.
“He realizes that, sometimes, the ‘sick’ student may have more going on in their home life than meets the eye,” one peer stated. “This nurse holds himself personally accountable for student success.”
A member of the Wayne UNC team for over two decades, McCullen is recognized for the genuine relationships she develops with her patients. “Often, she receives phone calls many months after surgery asking questions or sharing how well they are doing,” one peer said. “She is always happy to act as a resource for them.”
McCullen is always looking for new ways to provide care that will make things easier for our patients and families, from helping reduce the number of visits required for patients before surgery to enhancing patient preoperative educational classes.
The North Carolina Great 100 Inc. will recognize McCullen and Kincaid and other 2020 honorees in a virtual gala Sat., Oct. 10 at the Greenville Convention Center.
