Norwood Benton Pender, Jr., 66, peacefully passed away Thursday, August 13, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wayne County on January 13, 1954, he was the son of the late Norwood Benton Pender, Sr. and Mary Powell Pender.

Junior was the owner of BP Service Center in Pikeville and was well known for his great mechanic skills. Early in his life, Junior enjoyed drag racing and later got the simple pleasure in riding his Harley motorcycle. Junior always found peace when visiting the North Carolina Mountains. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 16, 2020 from 4:00 -5:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Junior’s life at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the Pikeville Cemetery.

Junior is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jacqueline Grady Pender; son, Norwood Todd Pender and wife, Stephanie of Pikeville; daughters, Christi Pender Orr and husband, Jason of Goldsboro and Teresa Lynn Thompson Smith and husband Scott of Goldsboro; brothers, Danny Pender and wife, Teresa of Goldsboro and Wiley Pender and wife, Debra of Pikeville; special aunt, Tenny Massey of Faison; step-son, Chris Jones of Pikeville; grandchildren, Hayley Pender, Nate Pender, Ethan Pender, Lucas Orr, Blaine Orr, and Spencer Riggs; and his niece and nephews, J. W. Pender, Danielle Pender and Kyle Pender.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Community Home Care and Hospice, 2309 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or to Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1100 Pikeville-Princeton Rd, Pikeville, NC 27863.

Junior’s family would like to acknowledge the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice, as well as the friends, caregivers, nurses, and physicians who had a profound impact on the quality of Junior’s life in recent months.
