Bell, Perry Announce Golden LEAF Projects for Wayne County

Rep. John Bell and Sen. Jim Perry announced that Golden LEAF Board of Directors voted to award funding to the following economic development and disaster recovery projects in Wayne County:

  • $100,000 through the Open Grants Program to Mt. Olive Family Medicine Center to support expansion of the family medical center and walk-in clinic, resulting in creation of at least three full-time and two half-time positions. Funds will be used to purchase medical equipment and furniture.
  • $87,500 through the Disaster Recovery Grant Program to Walnut Creek to increase an existing award to support repair of a pump station damaged as a result of Hurricane Florence.
  • $725,000 through the Disaster Recovery Grant Program to the Fork Township Sanitary District for installation of backup generators at critical sites throughout the water system.
  • $132,000 through the Disaster Recovery Grant Program to Southern Wayne Sanitary District for installation of backup generators at critical sites throughout the water system.

“Golden LEAF is a great partner in helping support our rural communities,” said Rep. Bell and Sen. Perry. “These funds, especially the disaster recovery grants that are funded through the state legislature, have been critical in ensuring Wayne County and other Eastern NC communities recover and are better prepared for future storms.”

The disaster recovery projects are directly funded by appropriations from the NC General Assembly to Golden LEAF. Golden LEAF is proud to be part of these critical projects to support job creation and disaster resilience in Wayne County.
