Community Blood Drive Planned For Aug. 7

Wayne UNC Health Care will host a Community Blood Drive in partnership with the County of Wayne, The Blood Connection and The Maxwell Center on Friday, August 7 at the Maxwell Center, 3114 Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro.

The drive, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., will offer free COVID-19 antibody testing for all donors. Donors will also receive a $10 Visa gift card.

The antibody test is not a diagnostic test for COVID-19 infection and it doesn’t prove an individual has immunity to the virus. Research of COVID-19 antibodies is still ongoing. Once the donor has made a complete blood donation, TBC will make antibody results available within seven business days by means of its electronic portal. Donors can opt out of testing if they prefer.

The community is encouraged to participate in the drive while practicing social distancing by remaining in their vehicles until it is their time to donate. Potential donors must be 17 years of age or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and feeling healthy and well. 16-year-old donors can donate with a parental consent form.

Donors can save time and ensure social distancing and limited interaction by making an appointment online.
