School Board Member Pushes For Remote Learning Start

At least one member of the Wayne County Board of Education wants the district to reconsider its reopening plans.

Board of Ed member Len Henderson made his comments Monday.

He says he’s concerned about the increase in COVID-19 cases following big holidays, and Henderson notes Labor Day is right after the new school year begins.

Henderson is asking the school district to reconsider its hybrid reopening plans and instead start the new school year with nine-weeks of strictly remote instruction.

Due to Tropical Storm Isaias, the Wayne County Board of Education ended Monday’s meeting directly after Henderson’s statement.

The school board meeting is scheduled to reconvene at 3:30 PM Wednesday, Aug. 5.
