James Woodard Crumpler, known to most as Buck Crumpler, passed away Monday, August 3, 2020, at his home. He was 90 years of age and was a resident of the Mount Olive area.

Mr. Crumpler was a native of Calypso and had served in the United States Air Force. He was a long time employee of the United States Postal Service, serving in the Mount Olive Post Office as a postal clerk until his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Olive.

Mr. Crumpler was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Woodard Crumpler and Beatrice Mercer Crumpler; and a sister, Amber C. Kornegay. He is survived by his wife, Pearl Vick Crumpler, of the home; a daughter, Ann Crumpler Jackson and husband, Curtis, of Mount Olive; a granddaughter, Emily Jackson Rouse and husband, Jordan, of Mount Olive; a grandson, Kevin Jackson and his special friend, Brittany Oliver, of Mount Olive; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Rouse and Channing Rouse, both of Mount Olive; a brother, Jack Crumpler and his wife, Lois, of Marshville; two sisters, Rhonda Lochte of Wilmington and Judy Williams of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service to honor the life of Mr. Crumpler will be held Thursday, August 6, at 2 p.m. at the Calypso Cemetery in Calypso. Officiating will be Dr. Dennis Atwood and the Rev. Christopher Turner. The family will greet friends at the cemetery at the conclusion of the service, and at other times, at the Crumpler residence.
