George Admiral Howell, 85, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020 at Wayne UNC Health Care.

George was born in Greene County on February 24, 1935 to the late Norman and Sudie Thomas Howell. He was married to the late Carolyn Peele Howell. George proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired from Wayco Ham after over 40 years of service. He was a devoted member of Saulston United Methodist Church.

George will be remembered as a southern gentleman. He was adored by his family, for whom he was a source of strength, but also by countless others, from old friends to new acquaintances, all of whom were struck by his quiet generosity, his kind and unassuming intelligence, and his innate courteousness. He cherished his wife and was role model to his children and grandchildren.

A private service for the family will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2020 in the sanctuary of Saulston United Methodist Church. Entombment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

George is survived by his children, Teresa Howell Smith of Goldsboro, Tony Howell and wife Melinda of Wilmington and Dawn Howell Schulte of Swansboro; sister, Lillian Rose of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Luke Smith, Shelby Howell, Brian Howell, Ian Schulte and Thomas Schulte; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Howell.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Polly Shepherd, Margaret Prillwitz, Joyce Baxley, Irene Hill, Grace Helen Carter, Norma Lee Smith, and Susan Barwick.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory to Saulston United Methodist Church, 4620 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
