Dr. Patricia A. Pfeiffer has been appointed to an American Association of Community Colleges commission.
Pfeiffer, the vice president of academic and student services at Wayne Community College, will serve on the Commission on Small and Rural Colleges.
Pfeiffer said she was honored to have been chosen for membership in the commission. “My nearly 26 years in higher education at a small rural college have given me insight into the unique issues our students face” she said. “I believe I can bring that experience to the national conversation, as well as gain valuable knowledge that can elevate Wayne Community College to even greater heights.“
“We are sure that your insights and leadership will significantly contribute to the Board’s decision-making process and its ability to serve the interests of all AACC member institutions,” said Dr. Walter G. Bumphus, AACC president and chief executive officer, in announcing the appointment. “Dedicated leadership is essential to the continued success of community colleges and to our association.”
The Commission on Small and Rural Colleges offers the association advice and counsel on trends and issues impacting institutions and makes suggestions on ways to address the needs of this segment of the nation’s institutions of higher education. The commission highlights innovative practices that can serve as models for other institutions.
It is one of nine AACC commissions established to provide advice to the AACC board of directors and staff and to encourage collaboration among community college entities and organizations.
Pfeiffer’s term on the commission will run July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2023.
The American Association of Community Colleges is the primary advocacy organization for the nation’s community colleges. The association represents nearly 1,200 2-year, associate degree-granting institutions and more than 12 million students.
