Brooks Pate, 84, passed away on Wednesday at Wayne UNC Health Care.

Brooks was born in Wayne County on March 22, 1936 to the late Handley and Irene Amerson Pate.

Brooks was a lifelong farmer, taking great pride in tending the land. Nothing was better than being in a field on one of his John Deere tractors. He also worked in sales with Wynn’s Friction Proof, J.P. Taylor Tobacco Company, Napa Auto Parts, and he was the owner and operator of Jefferson Park Service Station.

Brooks was a member of the Saulston Volunteer Fire Department and the Wayne County Wildlife Club.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 11, 2020 from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. in chapel with Rev. Walter Sloan officiating. Interment will be in the Pate Family Cemetery.

Brooks is survived by his wife of 62 years, Annette Lancaster Pate; son, Michael Brooks Pate and wife Deanna; daughter, Robin Lynn Pate; grandchildren, Ryan Tyndall, Brandon Pate and Jennifer “Jenny” Pate; sisters, Suzanne Gurley, Linda Pate and Sara Rollins; and brother, Junior Pate and wife Mary.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Alma Lewis, Handley Pate, Frank Pate, and infant sister, Sally Pate.
