Kathleen Yvonne Overton Summerlin, 81, Dudley area resident, passed away Sunday morning, July 5, 2020.
Her funeral will be Thursday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Chapel in Mount Olive, officiated by the Rev. Ashley Summerlin and the Rev. Lee Britt, with burial to follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Tyndall during the hour before the service.
Mrs. Summerlin was a licensed cosmetologist, and after she ended her hair styling career, she began employment with Joy Manufacturing in La Grange. She was talented with flower arranging and also with the making of crafts. Mrs. Summerlin was a member of Jones Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church. Having been married to her beloved husband for nearly 67 years, with he being a career military man, they found themselves living in many far away places.
Surviving Mrs. Summerlin are her husband, George Summerlin, of the home; her mother, Martha G. Overton of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Stacey Summerlin Capps of Mount Olive, Josh Summerlin and wife, Candice, of Washington state, Sarah Summerlin of Princeton, and April Summerlin Thigpen and husband, Derrick, of Goldsboro; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Summerlin and Isaiah, of Washington state, Jacksyn Capps of Princeton, Jasmine Thigpen of Goldsboro, and Avery Thigpen who is expected to arrive in the near future. Also surviving are sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Shirley Overton and Annie Ruth Overton, both of Mount Olive, Dorothy S. Hill of Faison, and the Rev. Ashley and Cynthia Summerlin of Seven Springs; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her three sons, Ronald Lynn Summerlin and wife, Frances, Ricky Eugene Summerlin, and George Ray Summerlin; her father, Roy Junious Overton; and two brothers, Elbert Ray Overeton and Robert Overton.
