Wayne County Provides Weekly COVID-19 Update

As of Thursday, the Wayne County Health Department has received notification of 1,847 total positive cases of COVID-19. 88 of these cases are attributed to congregate living facilities and 1,307 are cases from outside any type of congregate facility. 452 cases were earlier reported at the Neuse Correctional Institute and NCDPS has announced that all currently housed inmates have recovered. 1,552 of the 1,847 individuals who tested positive are now considered recovered, leaving an estimated total of 266 cases that are currently active in Wayne County.

The health department received notice of four additional deaths this week. The first individual passed away on June 25, 2020 and was in their mid-fifties with underlying medical conditions. The second individual passed away on June 26, 2020 and was in their early sixties with underlying medical conditions. This individual was attributed to a congregate care facility. The third individual passed away on June 30, 2020 and was in their early seventies with underlying medical conditions. This individual was attributed to a congregate care facility. The fourth individual passed away on June 30, 2020 and was in their mid-thirties with underlying medical conditions. The current total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Wayne County is 29.
