As of Friday, the Wayne County Health Department has received notification of 1,720 total positive cases of COVID-19. 86 of these cases are attributed to congregate living facilities and 1,171 are cases from outside any type of congregate facility. 469 offenders at Neuse Correctional Institute tested positive for COVID-19, but they have recovered as reported earlier by NCDPS. 1,196 of the 1,590 individuals who tested positive are now considered recovered, leaving an estimated total of 499 cases that are currently active in Wayne County.

The health department received notice of two additional deaths this week. The first individual passed away on June 19, 2020 and was in their early-seventies with underlying medical conditions. The second individual passed away on June 21, 2020 and was in their mid-seventies with underlying medical conditions. These deaths were not affiliated with a congregate or long term care facility. The current total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Wayne County is 25.
