Lenoir County Confederate Monument Relocated, Goldsboro’s Remains

A Confederate monument in Lenoir County is being moved to a new location.  On Thursday, the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting regarding the future of the Confederate monument currently located at the Kinston-Lenoir County Visitors and Information Center on E. New Bern Avenue in Kinston.  The board voted unanimously to relocate the monument to the First Battle of Kinston Civil War Battlefield Park on Harriette Drive in Kinston.

A written statement from the Lenoir County Board of Commissioners can be viewed below.

Elsewhere, City of Goldsboro officials tell Goldsboro Daily News there has not been any discussion on the future of the Confederate memorial at Willow Dale Cemetery.  That statue atop a pedestal marks a mass grave of approximately 600 Confederate soldiers.  The stone markers around the monument includes the names of the soldiers buried underneath.
