Mr. Walter Ray Fennell Sr., 95, passed on Friday, June 5, 2020 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Goldsboro, NC. The celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 11:00am at Elmwood Cemetery, 900 W. Brick Street (Hwy 117 Bypass), Goldsboro, NC. There will be a chapel viewing held on Monday, June 8, 2020 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home & Cremations, 1701 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro,NC.

Walter Ray Fennell Sr. was born October 30, 1924 to the late Richard Sr. and Bertha Mathis Fennell in Wayne County, NC. He was the youngest of seven children all of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Emma Shadding Fennell of the home, five children, Walter Ray and (Ernestine) Fennell Jr. of Durham, NC, Ralph Eugene and (Veronica) Fennell of High Point, NC, Dr. Patricia Ann and (Dr. Marvin) Eason of Angier, NC, Leon Douglas and (Sabira) Fennell of Durham, NC and Dr. Reginald Fennell of Raleigh, NC. He also leaves six grandchildren, Autumn Hobbs (Tony) Scott of Goldsboro, NC, Stephen and (Jennifer) Fennell of Deluth, GA, Cheri Fennell and Carlos Darby of Durham, NC, Dr. Renita Eason of Charlotte, NC, Fatimah Fennell of Charlotte, NC, Jafar Fennell of Durham, NC, and Makenzie Eason of Atlanta, GA, Niece in-law Superior Court Judge Sharon B. Majors-Lewis of San Diego, CA, niece Rosalind Lewis of Greenville, NC, and an “adopted” daughter Sadie B. ((Milton Lamont) Simmons of Goldsboro, NC. He also leaves six great-grandchildren Adan Hobbs (Danyel) of Chesapeake VA, Jarrod Scott, Jordan Scott, Aaron Scott all of Goldsboro NC, Stephen Fennell, Jr., and Angelina Fennell of Deluth, GA, Azyra Bennett-Fennell of Durham, NC, and two great-great-children Gabrielle Hobbs and Laila Hobbs of Chesapeake, VA.

Our father also had a lifetime friend Donald Strickland, in addition to several other relatives, friends, & loved ones.
