Wayne Community College’s gift to the community has been so popular that one of the classes is already full and the others are close to topping out.
The college’s Workforce Continuing Education division is offering four “Leisure and Recreation” courses free of charge in June.
- Floral Design, 6-7 p.m., Mondays, June 1-22
- “WERK” Cardio Fitness, 6-7 p.m., Wednesdays, June 3-24
- American Sign Language, 6-7 p.m., Tuesdays, June 2-23
- Communicating Effectively in Challenging Situations, 6-7 p.m., Tuesdays, June 9-23.
All will be held online in Google Meet.
The supplies needed for the Floral Design class will be sent to students.
Detailed descriptions of these courses and others offered this summer can be found at www.waynecc.edu/course-schedules/
“We are giving back to the community,” said Renita Allen Dawson, associate vice president for WCC Workforce Continuing Education Services. “These classes show the range of topics we offer and we’re letting people have a taste on us.”
One American Sign Language class that will be held on Thursday evenings is already at capacity. A second class was added on Tuesdays to meet the demand.
Overall response has been “overwhelming,” reported program coordinator Lisa Newkirk. “The others have been growing too but are not at capacity yet.” She encouraged potential students to sign up as soon as possible.
