Wayne County’s Jobless Rate Increases During COVID-19 Outbreak

Wayne County’s unemployment rate is in the rise, following a trend seen across most of North Carolina during the COVID-19 crisis.  According to the latest figures from the N.C. Department of Commerce, Wayne County’s seasonally unadjusted jobless rate jumped to 4.5% in March, up from the 3.9% rate recorded in February.  March is the first month where the coronavirus pandemic started to significantly impact the state’s employment numbers.  The Department of Commerce says there were 2,281 unemployed persons in Wayne County in March.  North Carolina’s not seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 4.2% in March.
