Wayne County Public Schools is sharing the following update on remote instruction:
Remote Instruction Timeline & Update: This week, district administrators met with workgroups of principals and counselors to finalize local plans and processes for teachers to effectively provide student feedback, give end of year progress reports, and assign final grades as applicable. On Friday morning, principals were given the following timeline to assist them with their school’s end of year plans for remote instruction.
Traditional Academic Calendar Schools: Remote delivery of new instructional material ends on May 29 to allow dedicated time for teachers to complete required end-of-year conferences with students and parents, provide student feedback for all work completed before and after the period that remote instruction began, and assess student work and academic growth that occurred during remote instruction. The last workday for traditional schools’ teachers will be June 16, the same date that was scheduled before school buildings were closed for in-person instruction by the Governor.
Non-Traditional Academic Calendar Schools (Goldsboro High, Wayne Early/Middle College High School, and the Wayne School of Engineering): Remote delivery of new instructional material ends on May 8 to allow dedicated time for teachers to complete required end-of-year conferences with students and parents, provide student feedback for all work completed before and after the period that remote instruction began, and assess student work and academic growth that occurred during remote instruction. The last workday for non-traditional schools’ teachers will be June 1, the same date that was scheduled before school buildings were closed for in-person instruction by the Governor.
The following statement was shared by Tamara Berman Ishee, WCPS Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning:
“While student work will no longer be collected by teachers after these May dates, teachers still have a tremendous amount of work ahead and will need every bit of the final two weeks of the school year to be able to complete vital administrative tasks. Teachers will be communicating with every family to help them understand their child’s academic standing and options. In order to provide meaningful feedback regarding growth, mastery of content, and achievement, it will be necessary for teachers to review all work completed by each student to understand where that child is and how ready he/she is for the level of coursework expected next fall. Teachers will be using all the communication methods at their disposal. We urge parents/guardians to contact their school to ensure WCPS has an updated phone and email address for their family.”
