Two Wayne County bridges south of Goldsboro will close Monday morning, May 4, so an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor can demolish and replace them.
The bridges being replaced are:
- Thunder Swamp Road over Thunder Swamp outside Mount Olive; and
- South Jordan’s Chapel Road over Falling Creek off U.S. 13.
National Bridge Builders LLC of Kernersville is replacing the aging bridges with modern structures. The new bridges are scheduled to reopen by the end of October.
The signed detour for Thunder Swamp will take drivers onto N.C. 55 and Harrell’s Hill Road. The South Jordan’s Chapel Road detour will include Raynor Mill Road and Edwards Store Road.
Drivers should plan for travel delays when using these detours and proceed cautiously around the work zones.
