Alex H. Aycock, 91, peacefully passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Wayne County on September 1, 1928, he was the son of the late Lester Barnes Aycock, Sr. and Cora Ellen Hines Aycock.

Alex was a farmer in the Nahunta community and later worked as a Rural Mail Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was the last living charter member of the Nahunta Volunteer Fire Department and later served with the Little River Volunteer Fire Department. Alex was an avid fisherman and loved tending to his garden. He was a member of The Bridge in Princeton.

A service for family and close friends will be held Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Andy Stovall officiating.

Alex is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Jo Ann Jones Aycock; daughter, Jackie Hare and husband, Greg; granddaughter, Alexis Spence and husband, Matt; sisters, Joyce “Jack” Pope and Carol Richardson; brother, Peter Aycock and wife, Judith; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Spence and Nolan Spence; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles E. “Bud” Aycock and sister, Ella Mae Santino.
