Nellie Joyce Kleinert Anderson

December 3, 2025, 85, Goldsboro — Nellie Joyce Kleinert Anderson of Wilson, NC, formerly of Goldsboro, NC, passed away Wednesday morning, December 3, 2025.

Joyce was born in Goldsboro, NC on July 27, 1940 to the late Arthur Leon Kleinert and Nellie Gay Malpass Kleinert. She worked with her father at Kleinert’s Grocery in Goldsboro in her early working years and learned the value of a dollar from both of her parents, which helped her through lean years to come.

Joyce loved her family and enjoyed cooking and caring for them. After nearly losing her life through an automobile accident at the hands of a drunk driver in 1968, she pressed on to a recovery through God’s mercy and strength. Though limited in her physical abilities, she raised her two children and worked part-time and kept her family going. She worked for a number of years as a box-office cashier at the Eastgate Cinema in Goldsboro and after that by doing private companion/sitter work attending to the elderly. Joyce was a former member of the Victory Free Will Baptist Church of Goldsboro, where she sang in the choir and taught first and second grade Sunday School.

Joyce is survived by her son, Norwood Gregory Anderson of Wilson, NC and daughter, Kimberly Anderson Boykin & husband, Jeffrey H. Boykin, also of Wilson. In addition, she is also survived by two granddaughters, Allison H. Boykin of Wilson and Kellie Boykin Bailey & husband, Luke H. Bailey of Sims, NC.
