Doug Carroll

December 3, 2025, 78, Kenly — Doug Carroll, 78, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Born on September 12, 1947, he was the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Carroll and Argie Flowers Carroll.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lou Carroll; daughters, Nickie Mahle (Bill), and Angie Whitley (Chuck); grandchildren, Jordan Pipkin (Charles), and Will Kearney (AnnMarie); great-grandchildren, Ethan McLamb, Sadie Pipkin, and Orion Kearney; siblings, Woodrow Carroll (Becky), Larry Carroll (Sally), Edith Cooke (Donald), and Audrey Carroll; and brothers-in-law, Billy Boykin (Eva) and Bobby Boykin (JoAnn). Doug is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly and held a very special place in his heart.

Doug was a man known for his big heart, steady hands, and the joy he found in the simple things of life. If it had an engine, Doug loved it.

Doug found great peace at the lake. He enjoyed the lake the most when his family was there with him spending countless hours on the pontoon boat and jet ski. He was a natural problem-solver and could fix anything. Truly a jack of all trades, he was the friend everyone could count on, always ready with a helping hand or a clever solution.

His church, Holly Springs Free Will Baptist, held a special place in his heart. Doug loved serving there, especially behind the grill. Known affectionately as the “grill master,” he cooked for the church with pride and joy, turning every meal into an act of fellowship.

Most mornings, Doug could be found at Ollie’s Country Store, where he rode up on his golf cart to meet his buddies. Those visits were a highlight of his day, full of laughter, stories, and the kind of friendships that last a lifetime.

Above all, Doug loved his family. He cherished his great-granddaughter, Sadie, and treasured the moments he spent taking his great-grandson Ethan, to school. Being “Pa” was one of his greatest joys, and his family knew the depth of his love in everything he did.

Doug will be remembered for his kindness, his craftsmanship, and his loyalty to everyone around him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and countless memories that will forever be held close by those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 4 p.m. at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 3 – 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church, 80 Beulahtown Rd, Kenly, NC 27542 in memory of Doug.
