Wayne County Mourns Loss of Commissioner Wayne Aycock

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — Wayne County officials announced today the passing of Commissioner George Wayne Aycock, Jr., a dedicated public servant who spent more than a decade representing residents as the county’s at-large commissioner.

Aycock, who joined the Wayne County Board of Commissioners in December 2012, was widely regarded as a committed leader with deep roots in the community. His service extended far beyond county government, including more than 60 years with the Nahunta Fire Department, where he was a pillar of support and leadership.

In addition to his role on the Board of Commissioners, Aycock previously served on the Wayne County Planning Board, the Northwestern Sanitary Water District, and was a longtime member of Pikes Crossroad Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was also an accomplished businessman, owning Nahunta Storage and formerly operating Wayne Aycock Trucking.

Today we lost a true leader in Commissioner Wayne Aycock,” said Chairwoman Barbara Aycock. “He was a true leader and a friend to all. He loved Wayne County. On behalf of the Board of Commissioners and the staff of Wayne County, we offer our condolences to Commissioner Aycock’s family.”

In honor of his decades of service, flags at all County facilities will be flown at half-staff. County officials ask the community to keep the Aycock family in their thoughts and to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Additional information, including funeral arrangements, will be released once finalized.
