Vickie Sue Harper Roby, 72, was called home on Saturday, November 15, 2025. Born in Lenoir County on July 7, 1953, she was the daughter to the late Elwood Jack Harper Sr. and Mary Ellen Smith Harper.
Vickie cherished every moment spent with her family, whom she regarded as the heart of her life. Their happiness and well-being were always her highest priority. She found great joy in cooking, especially when preparing meals that brought her loved ones together around the table. Vickie was also a true friend to all who knew her—kind, dependable, and always willing to lend a listening ear or helping hand.
For 24 years, she faithfully served at Howells Child Care Center, dedicating herself with compassion and commitment to the children and families within her care.
Vickie is survived by her children, Christy Leigh Flowers and James Earl Sessoms, II and wife, Susan; her grandchildren, Harper Cate Flowers and Jessica Elizabeth Sessoms and husband, Jay; her great-grandchildren, Layne Riley and Arley Paige Cumbo; her sister, Charlotte Ann King; and her brother, Elwood Jack Harper, Jr. and wife, Chris.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husbands, Charles Monroe Roby and James Stanley Kirby; her brother in law, Warren King; and her grandson, Logan Wayne Sessoms.
A graveside service to honor Vickie’s life will be held at 2pm on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Pastor Tim Gore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Vickie’s honor to either Piper’s Promise and can be mailed to Goldsboro Worship Center 900 W New Hope Road Attention: Piper’s Promise or to Fremont Missionary Baptist Church and can be mailed to 108 N Vance Street, Fremont, NC 27830.
The family is in the care of Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
