November 14, 2025, 83, Archer Lodge —

Carolyn Jean Baker, 83, of Archer Lodge passed away Friday, November 14, 2025 at Wake Medical Raleigh.  She was born on December 9, 1941 in Duplin County to the late Jasper Lovette Perry and Thelma Outlaw Oliver.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Starling; 2 grandsons, Christopher Douglas Starling and Jeffrey Lawrence Starling and six brothers.

Jean loved the mountains in the fall, especially when the leaves turned and everything felt peaceful and golden.  She found joy in tending to her flowers, caring for them with the same gentle patience she gave to everyone she loved.  Family was her greatest pride; her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the center of her world, and she never missed an opportunity for quality time with any of them, including her beloved granddog, Chevy.  She also had a special love for Phantom of the Opera, a tradition she shared with her family.  She gave her love openly and consistently and shared her wisdom just as freely.  Sometimes the wisdom was invited, sometimes not, but always with the best intentions.  All who knew her are better because of her.

Jean is survived by her son Jack Starling (Kay); daughter, Angie Heil (Max); sister, Linda Howell; grandchildren, Kristen Newman (Jason), Lauren Starling, Jennifer Capps (Brett) and Trey Overton (Jami); great grandchildren, Carter, Lexi, Ayden, Finley, Logan and Bladen.
