GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Firefighters battled a two-story house fire Tuesday evening that left one firefighter injured and caused extensive damage to a home on North Slocumb Street.
According to the Goldsboro Fire Department, crews were dispatched at 6:04 p.m. on Nov. 11 to a reported structure fire at 207 N. Slocumb St. Firefighters arrived just five minutes later to find heavy smoke and flames coming from multiple areas of the home.
Engines 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, along with Tower-1 and Battalion-1, responded with 23 personnel. Crews made an aggressive interior attack but encountered difficulties reaching hidden pockets of fire due to the home’s construction and the advanced stage of the blaze.
A search of the home was conducted, and no residents were found inside. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by Wayne County EMS.
Firefighters remained on site until 9:47 p.m. to fully extinguish the fire. During that time, additional Goldsboro units were called away to respond to another structure fire on Oleander Avenue.
Wayne County EMS, the Goldsboro Police Department, and Duke Energy assisted at the scene. The Belfast, El-Roy, Mar-Mac, and Rosewood volunteer fire departments provided coverage for other calls in the city during the response.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Goldsboro Fire Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
