Lane Closures Now Scheduled for Early November
NORTH CAROLINA -– The North Carolina Department of Transportation has announced accelerated plans for concrete pavement repairs on Interstate 85 in Davidson County, with work now scheduled to begin November 4 and conclude November 6.
The project, which was originally planned for late October before being rescheduled due to rain, will require temporary lane closures in both directions near Exit 102 (Lake Road) in Thomasville.
Northbound Lane Closures
Beginning at 6 p.m. on November 4, crews will close the two right lanes of I-85 northbound approximately one mile before Exit 102. The closure will remain in effect until 6 a.m. on November 5.
Following the overnight work, the right lane will stay closed until the newly placed concrete has properly cured to support traffic.
Southbound Lane Reductions
After completing the northbound repairs, crews will shift operations to the southbound lanes. Starting at 6 p.m. on November 5 and continuing until 6 a.m. on November 6, one southbound lane will be reduced one mile before Exit 102.
During this closure, southbound drivers will be unable to access Exit 102. Additionally, the right shoulder will remain closed after the overnight work period until the concrete cures sufficiently.
Weather-Dependent Schedule
NCDOT officials emphasize that all lane closures are weather permitting and could face delays or postponement. The project has already been rescheduled twice—first from its original October 28-30 dates due to rain, and subsequently accelerated from a November 18-21 timeframe.
Motorist Advisory
The department is encouraging drivers to seek alternate routes during the construction period and to remain alert when approaching work zones.
