GOLDSBORO, N.C. — An 18-year-old man was arrested at Busco Beach on October 11, 2025, after deputies discovered a Glock handgun illegally modified to fire as a fully automatic weapon during a stolen property investigation.
Jordan C-Michael Fowkes was taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction after deputies with the Special Operations Division and Investigations Division observed the modified firearm in plain view.
The Glock pistol was equipped with an aftermarket conversion device, commonly known as a “switch,” which transforms a semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic firearm. The weapon was also outfitted with an extended magazine at the time of discovery.
Deputies were conducting an investigation related to stolen property at the Busco Beach location when they encountered the illegally modified weapon. The possession and use of such conversion devices are prohibited under federal law, as they classify the firearm as a machine gun.
Fowkes, a white male, was processed and is being held on a $12,000 secured bond. The case remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
Automatic weapons conversion devices have become an increasing concern for law enforcement agencies nationwide, as they can be easily obtained through illegal channels and significantly increase a firearm’s lethality.
