GOLDSBORO, N.C. – The Wayne County Cooperative Extension Office is inviting young culinary enthusiasts to sharpen their kitchen skills through a four-week cooking program designed specifically for youth ages 9-12.
The 4-H Cooking SPIN Club will meet Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., beginning October 23 and continuing through November 13, 2025. Sessions will be held at the Cooperative Extension Office, located at 3114 Wayne Memorial Drive, Suite B in Goldsboro.
The program offers hands-on learning experiences covering essential cooking fundamentals and creative culinary exploration. Participants will engage in Savory Nights, where they’ll prepare main dishes and learn about flavor profiles, as well as a special Dessert Night focused on sweet treats and baking techniques.
Kitchen safety will be emphasized throughout the program, ensuring young chefs understand proper food handling, equipment use, and workspace organization. The curriculum also includes instruction on various cooking techniques and preparation for the Favorite Food Show, a popular 4-H competition where youth showcase their culinary skills.
Registration is $20 and must be completed in person at the Extension Office. Space is limited to paid registrations only. Youth must be enrolled in 4-H online prior to participating in the program.
For more information or to register, contact the Wayne County Cooperative Extension Office at 919-731-1527 or visit the office during regular business hours.
The 4-H SPIN (Special Interest) Club model allows youth to explore focused topics in short-term programs, making it an ideal option for families seeking enrichment activities without long-term commitments.
