Helen Tyndall Godwin died on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Wayne County to Emma Crawford and George William Tyndall on November 17, 1929.
Helen was a member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a part of the Tuesday Morning Ladies Group. She was a charter member of the Belfast Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, serving as a Chaplain for many years.
She was a woman of prayer whose deep love for Christ was evident in her kindness, humility, and unwavering trust in God’s promises. Her greatest loves were God, her family, and her church. Helen enjoyed gardening and watching and feeding the birds.
Helen was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and treasured great-grandmother. She was a lover of nature and enjoyed the simple things in life.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A graveside service celebrating Mrs. Helen’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025 in the Godwin Family Cemetery, 160 Salem Country Lane, Goldsboro, NC.
Helen was the wife of Ransom (Dick) Godwin for 56 years, until God called him home in 2002. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Emma Bartlett; her father, George William Tyndall; her son, David Godwin; her sisters, Sybil Sasser, Hester Jackson, and Janie Glandorf; her brothers, Oz Bartlett, Newton Bartlett, and Dickie Tyndall; and her faithful dog, Toby.
Survivors include her two sons, Dennis Godwin and wife, Edith, of Rockledge, FL, and Bill Godwin of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, Justin Godwin and wife, Ellie, Joshua Godwin and wife, Judy, Jonathan Godwin and wife, Hannah, Chris Godwin, Brian Godwin and wife, Krystal, and Amy Maslin and husband, Paul; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marlene Bartlett; her brother-in-law, George Sasser; her sisters, Joyce Bartlett and Dorothy Puckett; and five brothers, Harold Tyndall, Donald Tyndall, Tommy Tyndall, Doug Tyndall, and George Tyndall Jr. She is further survived by her special nephews, Eddie and Randy Godwin, with wife, Patricia; her loving nieces, Shay Godwin and Ann Letts; many other cousins, nieces, and nephews; and very special friends, Rosemary Barden and Dawn Potter.
Though she has left this earthly home, we rejoice in knowing she now rests in the presence of her Savior, and her legacy of love and faith will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know her.
