September 29, 2025, 87, Goldsboro —
Johnny Turbeville, 87, formerly of Goldsboro, NC, passed away peacefully in the early morning on September 29, 2025. Johnny was born in Tabor City to the late Ralph and Ethel Turbeville on April 24, 1938. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Turbeville; and a son, Steve Turbeville.
Johnny built a thirty-year career with the Lance Corporation, where he began as a delivery driver and, through years of dedication, rose to the position of branch manager. After retiring from Lance, his desire to stay active and connected with people led him to move to Norwood, NC, where he joined the team at Food Lion and worked for an additional twenty years.
Upon his second retirement, Johnny found joy in life’s simpler pleasures. Peaceful days spent fishing on Lake Tillery or tending to his vegetable garden were among the things he cherished most.
A private burial will be held at Gapway Church in Tabor City.
Johnny is survived by his children, Tammy T. Barnes, Susan Whitman and husband Randy, and Jeff Turbeville; seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and his faithful canine companion, Shiney.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many friends in Norwood, NC, who enriched Johnny’s life, as well as the compassionate caregivers at Gentiva Hospice and Harmony Hall, whose support in his final days was deeply appreciated.
