Wayne Community College to Host Third Annual Vocal Fest

GOLDSBORO, N.C. – Wayne Community College will welcome high school vocalists from across North Carolina for its third annual Vocal Fest on Thursday, Oct. 16, featuring a day of rehearsals and a free public concert.

The festival will bring together 135 singers, including students from 10 high schools and members of the WCC choir, for an intensive day of musical preparation culminating in a mass choir concert at 4 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium. The auditorium is located inside the Wayne Learning Center, the main building on WCC’s campus identifiable by the flag poles in front.

Nationally Recognized Guest Clinician

This year’s festival will be led by guest clinician Michael Engelhardt, a nationally recognized vocalist, composer, conductor, and producer. Engelhardt will collaborate with WCC’s music faculty throughout the day to prepare participating students for the final performance.

The concert will feature a special highlight: high school music directors joining the WCC choir to perform a selection composed by Engelhardt himself.

Student Competition and Awards

In addition to the mass choir performance, Vocal Fest includes a competitive element for student soloists and small ensembles. WCC’s music faculty will evaluate submitted performance videos, and three winners will be selected to perform at the concert. These winners will also receive monetary awards for their achievements.

Free and Accessible to All

The concert is free and open to the public. For those unable to attend in person, the performance will be livestreamed on WCC’s YouTube channel.

Wayne Community College encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. Anyone anticipating the need for accommodations or with questions about physical access should contact the Accessibility Counselor at 919-739-6729.
