Charles Eugene , “Ghostrider” Barker age 73, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, September 06, 2025 at UNC Health Wayne in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Born on November 16, 1951, in Warrenton, North Carolina, Charles began a life marked by service, dedication, and quiet strength. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army and served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. His time in the military reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment to others—qualities that would define him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Charles embarked on a long and accomplished career as a tractor trailer driver. He began driving early in life and retired in 2011 after decades on the road. Known for his exceptional skill behind the wheel, he earned numerous awards at truck driving competitions—a testament to both his talent and professionalism.
Charles had a deep appreciation for history and was an avid viewer of documentaries. He also enjoyed shooting guns, whether alone or alongside family members. Those who knew him remember his generosity; he was always ready to lend a hand or offer support without hesitation. His willingness to help others was unwavering—he truly would give you the shirt off his back.
He is survived by his brother Andrew Douglas Best; his children Mark (Nicole) Barker and family, Jason (Elizabeth) Barker and family, and LynBreanna (Christopher) Dougherty and family; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 2 Niece’s Summer Gainey and Shannon Jones
Charles was preceded in death by his mother Edna Best; siblings Carl Lee Best and Denise Williams; and grandson Tyler Eugene Barker.
