Wayne County Man Arrested After Firing Shots Into Neighbor’s Home

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A 41-year-old man was arrested September 18 morning following an incident in which he allegedly fired multiple shots into his neighbor’s residence on Emmaus Church Road.

Larry Thompson was taken into custody on September 19th after surrendering peacefully to investigators with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. The incident began on the evening of September 18th when deputies were dispatched to a reported breaking and entering in progress.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted while en route that the suspect was armed with a firearm. During the incident, the suspect discharged four rounds into the occupied residence before fleeing into nearby woods.

An extensive search was conducted that included responding deputies, a K9 handler and a drone operator covering a large area including fields and woods. Despite the comprehensive search effort, the suspect initially evaded capture.

Warrants were obtained against Thompson that same evening. In the early morning hours of September 19th, Thompson contacted a Wayne County Sheriff’s Office investigator by telephone, leading to arrangements for his peaceful surrender.

Thompson has been charged with four counts of Felony Discharge of a Weapon into Occupied Property. He was brought before a magistrate and is being held with a bond: $100,000.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has not released information about potential injuries or the extent of property damage. The investigation remains ongoing.
