Nearly 4,600 pharmacy locations across the country will participate in Saturday’s community health initiative
WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — Walmart announced it will host The Wellness Event at Walmart on Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering free health screenings, affordable immunizations, and various health-focused activities at nearly 4,600 pharmacy locations nationwide.
The community health initiative comes as more than 4,000 Walmart stores operate in areas experiencing shortages of medical providers, positioning the retail giant’s pharmacies and vision centers as accessible healthcare resources for underserved communities.
“Walmart pharmacists are often one of the most trusted healthcare providers in their communities,” the company stated, noting that 50% of its pharmacists have been with the company for 10 or more years, with 15% serving for over two decades.
Event Offerings
Saturday’s wellness event will feature comprehensive health services at no cost to participants, including:
- Free health screenings for blood pressure, glucose, and BMI
- Complimentary vision screenings at select locations
- No-cost flu shots and other affordable immunizations including RSV, shingles, tetanus, and HPV vaccines
- Information about Walmart’s low-cost generic prescription program, with medications starting at $4 per 30-day supply
- Consultations with pharmacists on medication therapy management and nutrition recommendations
- Samples and giveaways featuring over-the-counter items and nutritious options at participating locations
Expanding Healthcare Services
The wellness event highlights Walmart’s broader expansion into healthcare services. The company recently introduced Testing and Treatment services, available in 21 states, allowing customers to receive testing and treatment for strep, flu, and COVID-19 within 30 minutes, with same-day prescription pickup or delivery options available.
Data shows 75% of customers utilize these testing services after 5 p.m. on weekdays or during weekends, indicating strong demand for convenient, after-hours healthcare access.
By the end of 2025, Walmart plans to remodel, renovate, and upgrade nearly 2,000 pharmacy locations nationwide, adding dedicated Health Services rooms to provide private spaces for clinical services including Testing and Treatment and immunizations.
Delivery and Accessibility
Last year, Walmart launched its highly requested Pharmacy Delivery service, leveraging the company’s extensive U.S. footprint to reach more than 93% of American households. The service offers delivery in as fast as 30 minutes through express delivery options.
Since 2014, Walmart’s wellness-focused community events have provided more than 5 million free health screenings, reinforcing the company’s commitment to community health and well-being.
The September 13 Wellness Event represents Walmart’s continued effort to address healthcare access challenges in communities across the United States, particularly in areas where traditional medical providers may be limited.
