Ernest Lee Vinson

August 28, 2025, 71, Goldsboro —

Ernest Lee “Ernie” Vinson, 71, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at UNC Health Wayne. Born in Wayne County on February 3, 1954 he was the son of the late Junior and Virginia Vinson.

In addition to his parents Ernie was preceded in death by his father and mother-law, Richard and Marie Benton; brothers-in-law, Earl Carter and Scott Knopick; sister-in-law, Pamela Benton; and nephew, Layne Knopick.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly Benton Vinson; daughter and son-in-law, Brittany and Ryan Knopf; son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Casey Vinson; grandchildren, Conner, Luke, Ryker, and Bristol; sisters and brother-in-law, Cheryl Carter and Margie and Lee Swinson; brother-in-law, Mike Benton; sister-in-law, Xan Knopick; and several nieces and nephews.

Ernie was a man whose greatest joy in life was his family, and he held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He cherished every moment spent with them—whether it was sharing conversations about sports, or enjoying his beloved Thursday night date nights with his granddaughter, Bristol. Those times were the highlight of his week and a reflection of the love and devotion he carried for his family.

A true people person, Ernie also found great joy in friendship and camaraderie. He loved playing poker with his friends on Thursday and Friday, where laughter, stories, and fellowship were just as important as the cards on the table. Golf was another of his favorite pastimes, a game that allowed him to enjoy the outdoors and the company of those he cared about.  Although he was not able to play anymore, his joy was driving the cart and giving pointers to his grandsons.

Ernie’s work was also a source of pride and purpose. As the owner and operator of Vinson Electric, Inc., he built more than just a business—he built a family. He treated his employees with respect and care, always considering them part of his extended family. His leadership, integrity, and generosity left a lasting mark on all who worked alongside him.

A service to celebrate Ernie’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Rose officiating. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Daniels Chapel Church, 2802 E Ash Street, Goldsboro, NC 27534.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home.
