State Superintendent Launches Statewide Strategic Plan Regional Tour

State Superintendent Green Announces Statewide Strategic Plan Tour

RALEIGH, N.C. – State Superintendent Maurice “Mo” Green will embark on a comprehensive statewide tour this fall to present his strategic plan for North Carolina’s education system, the Department of Public Instruction announced today.

The strategic plan regional tour, developed in collaboration with the State Board of Education, will visit all eight regions of North Carolina throughout September and October, with a virtual session scheduled for November. The initiative aims to engage community stakeholders in discussions about “Achieving Educational Excellence,” Green’s blueprint for the state’s educational future.

Eight Regions, One Vision

The tour represents an ambitious effort to bring educational leadership directly to local communities across the state. Beginning Thursday, September 25, Green will travel to venues spanning from Winterville in the northeast to Bryson City in the western mountains.

“This strategic plan belongs to all North Carolinians,” Green said in the announcement. “By taking this conversation directly to communities across our state, we’re ensuring that every voice has the opportunity to be heard in shaping the future of education.”

Community Engagement at the Forefront

The public forums are designed to be inclusive, welcoming parents, students, educators, school staff, public officials, and community members. Each session will provide attendees with detailed information about the strategic plan while creating opportunities for feedback and dialogue.

The Department of Public Instruction emphasized that the virtual option in November will ensure statewide accessibility for those unable to attend regional sessions.

Focus on Educational Excellence

The “Achieving Educational Excellence” strategic plan represents Green’s comprehensive approach to addressing challenges facing North Carolina’s public education system. The regional forums will provide detailed presentations of the plan’s key components while gathering community input on local educational priorities.

State Board of Education members are expected to participate in select regional sessions, underscoring the collaborative nature of the initiative.

The tour comes at a critical time for North Carolina education, as the state continues to address teacher retention, student achievement gaps, and resource allocation challenges across its 115 school districts.

Registration information and additional details about each regional session are available through the Department of Public Instruction’s website.
