Richard S. Proctor, Jr., 87, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on August 24, 2025, surrounded by his family. Richard was born on December 6, 1937, in New Bern, North Carolina, to the late Richard S. Proctor, Sr., and Elizabeth Parrott Proctor.
Richard graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1956 and attended East Carolina University. Richard retired from the State of North Carolina. He also served as the Fire Commissioner for the Grantham Volunteer Fire Department. Richard was a member of Selah Christian Church. He was an avid fan of the NC State Wolfpack and the New York Yankees. His hobbies included a love for reading, solving cross-word puzzles, and building model airplanes and cars. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, lightheartedness, and love for his family. He was a loyal husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Snow Miller Proctor. He was a loving father to his two children, Ann Ham and spouse Darrell, along with Richard S. Proctor, III and spouse Shelly. Richard was also a proud grandfather to Paige Ham and spouse Elizabeth, Meredith Harrison and spouse Josh, Meredith Best, and Emma Proctor. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren: Brody Harrison, Payton Ham, and Caden Harrison.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to Ms. Linda Moore, Mrs. Faith Fuhs, and the caring teams at Gentiva and 3HC for their support and compassion.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A graveside service to honor Richard’s life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
The family requests that donations be made to the Grantham Volunteer Fire Department in Richard’s memory, or to another charity of your choice.
