Vivian (Libby) Elizabeth Pope, 71, peacefully passed away at her home on Friday, August 22, 2025 with her family by her side. Born on April 24, 1954 in Johnston County, she was daughter to the late Charles Ray Pope and Betty Lou Hare Pope.
Libby dedicated 30 years to the noble profession of teaching, a vocation she loved deeply. She found joy in guiding young minds, nurturing their curiosity, and inspiring them to reach their full potential. Her students were more than just pupils; they were cherished, and she treasured every moment spent in their company. Libby’s passion for education, patience, and kindness left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of learning from her.
Equally dear to her heart was her granddaughter, Kaycee, with whom she shared countless cherished moments, doing everything together and creating memories that will be treasured forever. Libby’s devotion to family and her warmth left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Libby was a devoted member of Piney Grove OFWB Church where she faithfully served on the Women’s Auxiliary and was a past clerk, contributing her time and talents to the life of the congregation.
Libby is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Jackie Pope; her daughter, Cathi Pope and her fiancée, Randy Driver; her granddaughter, Kaycee Roberson; her sister, Myra Bridgers and husband, Ricky; her niece, Anna Bridgers; her nephews, Will Patterson and Thad Bridgers; her brother-in law Kevin Patterson and her sister-in-law, Jean Pope.
In addition to her parents, Libby was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Patterson.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Kenly Funeral Service. A service to honor Libby’s life will be held in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Gavin Daniels officiating. Interment will conclude at the Dixon Family Cemetery.
