Update: Goldsboro Housing Authority CEO Terminated; COO Named Interim Leader

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Housing Authority of the City of Goldsboro announced a significant leadership transition this week following a Board of Commissioners vote to terminate Chief Executive Officer Anthony Goodson Jr.’s contract.

The decision was made during the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting on August 21, 2025, where a majority of commissioners voted to end Goodson’s tenure, citing the need for “a change in leadership direction.”

Chief Operating Officer Sharita Oates has been tapped to serve as Interim Chief Executive Officer, a position she accepted Thursday morning. Oates will oversee daily operations while the Board determines its next steps for permanent leadership.

“The Board of Commissioners remains dedicated to the residents of Goldsboro and to the Housing Authority’s mission of providing safe and affordable housing opportunities for our community,” said Board Chair Sherry Archibald in a statement. “We are focused on a smooth transition in leadership and on continuing the important work of serving families who rely on us.”

The Board emphasized that it acknowledges Goodson’s years of service and contributions to the Housing Authority. Officials stated they are working cooperatively with the former CEO and remain committed to fully complying with the terms of his contract.

Throughout the transition process, the Board has been guided by legal counsel Phil Baddour to ensure proper procedures and compliance with relevant regulations.

The Housing Authority serves as a critical resource for low-income families in Goldsboro, providing safe and affordable housing opportunities throughout the community. The organization has indicated it will provide additional updates as the leadership transition progresses.

No timeline has been announced for the selection of a permanent replacement for the CEO position.
