Senior Master Sergeant Mitchell Ray Lynch, Retired U.S. Air Force, 92, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.

Born July 7, 1933, in Nash County to the late William and Ruby Lynch, Mitchell was a man whose life reflected his steadfast devotion to God, unwavering love for his country, and deep commitment to his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Stephanie Whitaker; grandson, Bailey Lynch; and brothers Bill Lynch and Johnny Lynch.

Mitchell proudly served our country in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1973 after 20 years of honorable service as a Senior Master Sergeant. Following his military career, he continued his life of dedication and discipline through 20 years of service with the United States Postal Service.

Those who knew Mitchell will remember him as the very definition of a devoted husband, loving father, and proud Papa. He worked tirelessly to provide for and protect those he loved, always striving to give them the very best. His legacy is one of integrity, sacrifice, and unconditional love.

Mitchell lived out his faith daily and cherished the fellowship of his church family at The First Church in Goldsboro.

Mitchell is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Shelby Pope Lynch; daughters, Rita Lynch Pierce and husband, Larry of Goldsboro, and Kim Lynch Smith and husband, Tom of Goldsboro; sons, Daryl Lynch and wife, Cindy of Goldsboro, and Jeff Lynch and wife, Caroline of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Amber Currin, Brandon Pierce and wife, Mandy, Lauren Davis and husband, Josh, Morgan Powell, Kyle Powell, Tyler Lynch, and Kayla Lynch; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by his sister, Ellen Robbins of Rocky Mount; brother, Marvin Lynch of Knightdale; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
