GOLDSBORO, NC – Wayne County’s Department of Social Services and Health Department will begin relocating to a new consolidated facility next week, marking a significant step toward enhanced service delivery for county residents.
The move to the E.B. Borden Parker Department of Health and Human Services Building at 1560 Clingman Street will take place from Monday, August 25, through Friday, August 29, 2025.
Temporary Service Disruptions During Transition
During the five-day relocation period, both department locations will be closed to public access. However, essential services will continue through alternative means.
Residents can still reach the Department of Social Services at 919-580-4034 and the Health Department at 919-731-1000 for assistance throughout the transition week.
Child Support Services will also suspend walk-in services during this period, with one exception: the office will remain open Wednesday, August 27, to accommodate scheduled court proceedings and assist customers on that date.
Critical Services Remain Available
Wayne County officials emphasized that essential protective services will continue operating without interruption. Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services will maintain their required 24/7 availability throughout the move.
“If you suspect that a child or disabled adult is being abused, neglected, exploited, or is dependent, contact DSS immediately at 919-705-1194,” officials stated. Emergency situations should still be reported by calling 911.
New Facility Features Enhanced Access and Efficiency
The new 88,000-square-foot facility is strategically located behind the Wayne County Animal Shelter and offers dual access points from both Clingman Street and Corporate Drive.
By consolidating the Health Department and Department of Social Services under one roof, the new building aims to create a more comprehensive and accessible service environment for county residents.
“With this new space, we’re enhancing the way we deliver vital services to the community, ensuring greater efficiency, convenience, and care for our residents,” county officials said.
Public Access Resumes September 2
The consolidated facility will officially open its doors to the public on Tuesday, September 2, at 8:00 a.m., marking the beginning of a new chapter in Wayne County’s approach to health and human services delivery.
