Delia Carlisle Smith

August 1, 2025, 87, Goldsboro —

Delia Carlisle Smith, 87, peacefully entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior late Friday evening, August 1, 2025, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Born in Greene County on August 24, 1937, Delia was the daughter of the late Simon and Eula Carlisle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Rev. Dwight Reynolds Smith; her daughter-in-law, Lori S. Smith; grandson, Carlyle Scott Smith; and sister, Eleanor Williams.

Delia was a devoted wife, mother, and servant of God. She and Reynolds were united in marriage on March 16, 1956, beginning a life of love, faith, and unwavering partnership in ministry. Their journey together led to a 46-year legacy of service in the Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where they ministered faithfully side by side. Reynolds was ordained in 1970, and together they touched countless lives through their compassion, encouragement, and love for the Lord. Their marriage was a living testimony of God’s grace and a model of Christian devotion for their family and community.

Delia also worked diligently outside the home, first with Dr. Sasser in Goldsboro for seven years, and later for 23 years as an insurance clerk with Wayne Urological. No matter her role, she carried herself with grace, humility, and a heart full of kindness.

Delia cherished God’s Word and lived her life in faithful service to Him. Her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family will be dearly remembered.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Free Gospel P.F.W.B. Church followed by a service to celebrate Delia’s life at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Michael Parks officiating. Interment will follow in Snow Hill Cemetery. At other times the family will be receiving friends at Delia’s home in Goldsboro.

She is survived by her sons, Stevie Smith and wife, Katrina, and Scott Smith; her grandchildren, Crystal Ezzell, Malori Price, and Parker Mellott; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa Ezzell, Lyla Dawn Smith and Avian Grantham.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in her memory to Free Gospel Church, 145 Free Gospel Road Snow Hill, NC 28580 or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
