GOLDSBORO, N.C. –- The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for community project proposals to be undertaken by the 2025-2026 Leadership Wayne class. Local organizations have until September 15th to submit project ideas that will allow emerging leaders to make a meaningful impact in Wayne County.
Program Overview
Leadership Wayne brings together civic-minded professionals each year for dynamic learning experiences, community service, and collaborative projects. The program’s signature community project serves as a cornerstone experience, enabling class members to apply their leadership skills while creating lasting benefits for Wayne County residents.
“This is a unique opportunity for local organizations to partner with motivated professionals who are committed to making a difference in our community,” said Janet Brock of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.
Project Requirements
Organizations interested in submitting proposals must ensure their projects meet specific criteria designed to maximize both learning and community impact:
Team Collaboration: Projects must provide hands-on participation opportunities for all class members and promote collaborative teamwork.
Community Impact: The final project must be accessible to and provide clear benefits for Wayne County residents.
Long-term Sustainability: Proposals should include low-maintenance solutions or detailed plans for ongoing upkeep after project completion.
Realistic Timeline: The hands-on implementation phase typically begins in January and must be completed by April 29, 2026.
Budget Feasibility: Project costs should be reasonable and achievable through the class’s fundraising efforts.

Organizations can submit their proposals by mail to the Wayne County Chamber at PO Box 1197, Goldsboro, NC 27533, or deliver applications in person to 308 N. William Street, Goldsboro, NC. The submission deadline is September 15, 2025.

History of Impact
Previous Leadership Wayne classes have completed diverse projects that continue to benefit the community:
- 2024-2025: Enhanced the Career Expo with breakout sessions and improved student engagement
- 2023-2024: Installed pole barn shelters and outdoor activities at Camp Vision
- 2021-2022: Developed outdoor construction area at Wayne Opportunity Center
- 2020-2021: Created community garden at The Boys & Girls Club
- 2019-2020: Built outdoor shelter for The Salvation Army
Earlier projects have included the 3HC Kitty Askins Veterans Garden, Pikeville Activities Trail with Little Free Library, Wayne County NC Heritage GeoTrail, and Herman Park’s Story Walk, demonstrating the program’s consistent commitment to diverse community needs.
