Gerald Edwin Pope, 78, of Goldsboro passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The family will greet friends following the service. A graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro.

Born in Wayne County on November 29, 1946, Gerald was the son of the late Cleon and Helen Taylor Pope. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post #94 in Snow Hill, NC. Gerald began his working life as a dedicated truck driver. He was a quiet man, but friendly and dependable mechanic that you could trust. Gerald was a hard worker that would give you the shirt off his back and had a heart of gold.



Gerald met the love of his life, Lucy, on a blind date and knew immediately she was the one for him. In addition to his wife, Lucy, of 50 years, he leaves his precious family including his daughters, Jennifer Pope Hart of Goldsboro and Karen Pope Radford and husband, David of Goldsboro; his brother, Harold Pope and wife, Terry of Macclesfield; his sisters, Janet Taylor of Lucama and Linda Jones of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Megan Floars and husband, Brad, Logan Hart, Gracyn Hart and Shelby Radford and his great-granddaughters, Hailynn Floars and Laiken Floars.



In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his loving pet companion, “JB”.
