Art Has No Age: Creative Aging Exhibit Showcases Talents of Older Adults

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Arts Council of Wayne County is currently hosting Creative Aging: Learn, Explore, Create, an inspiring art exhibit highlighting the creativity and personal growth of older adults in the community. Open from June 6 through June 27, 2025, the exhibit is located in the Main Gallery at the Arts Council’s downtown Goldsboro location, 139 W Walnut St.

The exhibit showcases the work of participants from the Wayne County Public Library’s Creative Aging Program, which is designed specifically for individuals aged 55 and older. Through a series of free, professionally taught workshops held at various locations across the county, participants had the chance to learn new artistic techniques and express themselves through visual arts.

On display are a variety of pieces including paintings, ceramic sculptures, textiles, and a floral arrangement—each representing the unique perspective and creative spirit of older adults engaged in lifelong learning. The works reflect not only technical skill but also the personal stories, experiences, and imaginations of the artists, many of whom are exploring art for the first time or returning to creative passions from earlier in life.

The Creative Aging Program is part of a broader national movement that recognizes the benefits of continued education, engagement, and creative exploration as people age. These programs aim to enhance cognitive health, social interaction, and overall well-being through meaningful artistic activities.

This exhibition offers the public a chance to connect with the artists’ journeys and appreciate the value of creative opportunities at every stage of life. Visitors are encouraged to stop by during gallery hours to view the collection and support this celebration of aging, artistry, and community.

Admission to the gallery is free. For more information about the exhibit or the Creative Aging Program, contact the Wayne County Public Library or visit the Arts Council of Wayne County’s website.
